About Me

After graduating with a Bachelors in Civil Engineering I took some time off to travel. Upon my return I tried my hand at Web Development and loved it. Shortly after, I decided to dive deeper into the world of web development and switch career paths from building bridges to building websites.

I completed various courses in web development, digital marketing and design. I finished a three-month internship at one of the leading software development companies in South Africa before moving to Edinburgh where I am currently based.

Since moving to Edinburgh I've worked on a variety of projects and been involved in free-lance, agency and corporate work. I've continued to upskill and refine my skills in an effort to keep up with the everchanging web industry. I recently completed a React nanodegree through Udacity.

Udacity React Nanodegree Project Two

Leveraging the strengths of Redux I built a "Would You Rather" application where users are given questions and must choose one of them. This dynamic application was built from scratch and combines the state management features of Redux and component model of React. You are able to create your own sets of questions, choose between them, and keep track of question popularity.

Sainsbury's Bank Intermediary Mortgage Calculator

This calculator is used by brokers to determine how much Sainsbury's Bank would be prepared to lend customers based on number of factors. I took the initiative to refactor the calculator, improve accessibility and error handling, integrate unit testing and incorporate elements of ES6. Many brokers are restricted to using older browsers (typically older versions of IE) which presented some interesting challenges that were overcome.

Sainsbury's Bank Loan Calculator

Project Slingshot is the optimisation of Sainsbury's Bank public website with the goal of driving conversion. As part of this team I was involved with the redevelopment of the loans calculator which has seen a 30% increase in conversions a result. The new calculator now has a new look and feel, improved accessibility and enhanced functionality to it's predecessor.

Use Some Common Cents To Build Financial Independence

I designed and developed a responsive website for a client to showcase the book he had authored . The website scored 100 for performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO when using Google's Lighthouse auditing tool.

After APlus Consulting was founded in 2017 they tasked me with creating a logo and a website for the new company. This was the first freelance project that I completed.
